Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, sleepy town. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is often known as the place where she was born. However, she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa within Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer, but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. A Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many dancers make the transition into acting. In the case of Bruce, it was her drama instructor who pushed her to go in this direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. After trying out, she ended up as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel has been involved in more than 60 shows, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian on the season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
